Rodents and Porsches don't mix. Porsche Cayman Ambient Temp Sensor wire fix, Eng & Cabin Air Filter
Mice got to the wiring for the Intake area Ambient Temperature Sensor in a Cayman 981. The symptom was the auxiliary fans located at the side intakes were triggering only after a few minutes of running and would stay on after turning off the key even on colder days. This temp sensor is similar to 986/987 and 996, 997, and 991 cars. Located in between the intake runners 1 and 2 there are two wires susceptible to rodents. Will show you how to identify and fix it. If the sensor needs replacement, this video will help. This solved the aux fans always being on. While in the area I show how to change the Engine Air Filters as well as the Cabin filters. Also, show in reverse order what panels and carpet to remove to gain access. Feel free to skip around the video to find what you need. I don't monetize my videos, please kindly provide a thumbs up if you learned something new or if this provides you the confidence to inspect the engine area.

    I only have so much room in my garage to do the brakes, can I first bleed the front brakes. Than turn on the car and reverse it into the garage so I can do the back? Or do all the wheels have to be done at the same time and the car can't be started/moved during the process?

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos 9 днів тому

      If you are limited in space and can't do them all at once outside, start with the rears (always start with the caliper that's farthest from the reservoir.) Bleed them so that there's new fluid coming out, and keep watching so the reservoir doesn't go dry. Then move to the fronts. Good Luck

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos 22 дні тому

      It should take up some of the slack or tolerance. The bottom of the rods were too far out of tolerance. The larger (thicker) bearings helped, but there was still the knocking noise, albeit less audible.

    Well done and much appreciated! I'm going to be installing a Denso pump today. I also experienced fuel starvation issues on track and on hill climbs, so I installed a Radium fuel surge tank. I've never swapped the brake fluid before. My car is a 2017 civic. The bleeder screws are rusted, S in in the rust belt (toronto). There any danger is getting air in the system when replacing the bleed screws? What's the proper way to replace a bleed screw?

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos 3 місяці тому

      First, clean the area before removing the bleeder screw, good brake cleaner will work but be careful not to drench the brake pads, and keep rags around to wipe things up. Your system will take on air when replacing bleed screws, so once you replace all bleed screws you must bleed your system. If you doubt your capability to do something like this, take your car to a shop. Brake system work is not something you want to chance from a safety point of view.

      That's a great question, I sold the X3 soon after I did this procedure. On my vehicle, it was missing altogether due to an earlier windshield replacement which leads me to believe it was stuck to the glass and removed and not replaced. The important thing (whichever way you orient yours) is that the thicker edge is facing up to properly fill the gap from a wind perspective.

    I have looked all over for information on replacing the upper seal because as you stated, someone left mine out before I bought the car a 2014 X3. I got suspicious because I thought I had more wind noise than a BMW should. Very good video. I have the upper seal, but not the clips for the side molding. I will get some before I attempt this. Not looking forward to this. I have to wonder what the heck the engineers that design all this plastic crap clip stuff are thinking. They are all over modern cars. It's all about saving production cost and not at all about maintenance. Shame on the Windshield repair guys for taking the easy way out.

      Well, I hope it does not come to that. My 2014 x3, 35i is in perfect condition and is a pleasure to drive. I have to admit that I am intimidated by doing this myself due to the clips and not even knowing if I can get seal around the window edge and the push seal through . I sure would not to damage the side molding. I am a decent mechanical guy and have.worked on cars a lot, but…The proliferation of plastic clips on cars is just mind-boggling . This is the first car I’ve had that has molding over the window edge. Thanks for your response.

    Hi Dan. How does switching between the front and rear camera work with a manual transmission? Does it work automatically with reverse gear and 1st gear? Which camera can you recommend for the front and rear? Do you also have a shop where i can buy all? Thank you very much

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos 5 місяців тому

      Hi Jens, this video was a brief overview of the ZZ2 in my 981. The switching between the front and rear camera is triggered similarly in a manual (reverse gear vs any forward gear.) The camera is your choice (or your install shop's choice) and just needs to be compatible (most are). The cameras my installer used are attached with adhesive. I'm recommending Car Audio MX located in San Jose, CA for the purchase and installation (Martin the owner will take care of acquiring everything, performing the installation, and upholding any warranty claims), but if you aren't in the area then you would need to check with your local car audio shop. If you are trying to source it for DIY, you would need to contact ZZ2. zz-2.com/products/it3-pcm31a-all-in-one. There are installation instructions on their website, but note I can not help you with the DIY part as I had it professionally installed.

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos 9 місяців тому

      The original plastic window was cut out with a box cutter knife, just go to the edge of the cloth or vinyl, you need to do with with the top removed and on a flat cardboard surface. Use a Dremel with a sand-paper wheel to get it straight. The gluing process is applied to the remnant of the original plastic window and also to the plastic window you are installing (just the overlap area). Do this in sections and do it neatly and sparingly, you don't want the glue seeping out and getting in places you don't want it. If you have the glue on both surfaces, it's a really strong bond and you won't need a lot.

    Actually.....The info on the top trim piece is incorrect. The adhesive strip sticks to the underside of the windshield. The BMW service info has you remove the windshield to replace. They also make a special tool to squeeze the adhesive part onto the glass. Personally.....I'm just going to leave mine naked....hardly noticeable with the piece gone.

      Thanks for the clarification, makes sense. It might have a little more wind noise if the top strip is removed, I sold the vehicle (and the lousy camera- always out of focus) soon thereafter. Again thanks for the note.

      Great! Have all parts on hand and take your time. Do it when you are not depending on the car for transportation in case you need to get more parts. Good Luck!

    Helped me decide which aftermarket battery clampdown kit to buy, my used civic had a lazy owner who didn’t clamp it back, so I had no hold down clamp at all. Thanks for taking the time to help us out!

    Do you have any functions on the instrument cluster on the dash like the stock GPS? How it will show GPS on the right of the RPMs (info section)

    • @SirFixAlotAutos
      @SirFixAlotAutos 11 місяців тому

      Yes, I still have the stock GPS function and it still shows on the instrument cluster. However, I don't use it. The benefit of the ZZ2 is the capability to bring in GPS applications like Waze - providing easier search and current traffic conditions plus route optimization. This system is additive to the original PCM, it doesn't eliminate original functions when installed properly.

    Hi Dan, I know you made this video a long time ago, I am trying to solve issue with my fuel gauge not working. we have replaced the fuel pump, fuel sending unit and the yellow wire is reading at 74 ohms- but the gauge isnt working could the gauge be bad, any links to how to change or fix or test this? thanks!

      Sounds like it is an issue with the gauge itself since you're getting 74 ohms, current is flowing. Here's a video on how to remove the cluster ua-cam.com/video/vk-Su60g1tM/v-deo.html. You can also test the plug (same color wire) to the back of the gauge cluster connector to make sure the current is flowing up to the gauge cluster and there is no break in the line. If a signal is there, then you likely need to replace the fuel gauge. Goog Luck.
